2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
If we are going to talk about why America needs more faith in God, we must begin with the Bible. Not with opinions. Not with politics. Not with headlines. Not with social media. We must begin with the Word of God because the Word of God is our authority. Psalm 119:89 says: “Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens."
The Bible is clear that every nation, every people, every family, and every individual ultimately depends upon God whether they recognize it or not. The prophet Daniel declared in Daniel 2:21: "He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others." God is sovereign over history. God is sovereign over nations. God is sovereign over rulers. God is sovereign over every generation.
Therefore, if America is to be blessed, strengthened, and preserved, it must not place its faith merely in its economy, military, technology, education, or government. America must place its faith in God. Throughout the Scriptures, we find a consistent principle: when people seek God, they experience His blessing; when they abandon God, they experience spiritual decline.
This truth is seen throughout the history of Israel. In Deuteronomy 30:19-20, Moses stood before God's people and said: "This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him." Notice that God placed before His people a choice. Life or death. Blessing or curse. Obedience or rebellion.
The same choice exists today. Every generation must decide whether it will trust God or trust itself. One of the greatest dangers facing any nation is forgetting God. Psalm 9:17 says: "The wicked go down to the realm of the dead, all the nations that forget God."
That verse is not directed at one nation alone. It reveals a timeless spiritual truth. A nation that forgets God loses its moral compass. A nation that forgets God loses sight of eternal truth. A nation that forgets God begins to trust human wisdom above divine wisdom. Yet Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
America needs more faith because faith teaches us to trust God's wisdom rather than our own. Throughout Scripture, human beings repeatedly believed they knew better than God. Adam and Eve believed they knew better. The generation of Noah believed they knew better. The builders of Babel believed they knew better. Yet every time humanity elevated its wisdom above God's wisdom, destruction followed. Isaiah 55:8-9 says: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord.
God sees what we cannot see. God knows what we do not know. God understands the beginning and the end. Faith acknowledges that God knows best.
America also needs more faith because faith leads people to repentance. The Bible teaches that revival always begins with repentance. When King Josiah discovered the Book of the Law, he humbled himself before God. When the people of Nineveh heard Jonah's warning, they repented. When Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost, the people cried out, "What shall we do?" Peter answered in Acts 2:38 "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins."
Repentance is not simply feeling guilty. Repentance is turning toward God. Repentance is changing direction. Repentance is surrendering our lives to Him. America does not merely need reform. America needs revival. And revival begins when people repent. The Bible teaches that faith also produces righteousness. Proverbs 14:34 declared: "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people."
Notice the Bible does not say wealth exalts a nation. It does not say power exalts a nation. It does not say influence exalts a nation. It says righteousness exalts a nation. Righteousness means living according to God's standards. Righteousness means honoring God's commands. Righteousness means walking in obedience to His Word. Throughout the Bible, God's people were called to be different from the nations around them. Leviticus 20:26 says: "You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy."
Today, the Church is still called to holiness. Not perfection. But holiness. A life set apart for God. America needs believers who live according to Scripture and reflect the character of Christ. America also needs more faith because faith strengthens families.
The first institution God established was not government. It was the family. Genesis 2:24 says: "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh." Throughout Scripture, God works through families. Noah's family entered the ark. Abraham's family became a nation. Joshua declared in Joshua 24:15 "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the importance of teaching children about God. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says: "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children." If America is to experience spiritual renewal, families must once again become places where God's Word is read, taught, and lived.
America needs fathers who pray. Mothers who trust God. Grandparents who share their testimony. Young people who seek God's purpose. Children who learn the truth of Scripture. Faith is passed from generation to generation.
The Bible also teaches that faith gives hope. Romans 15:13 says: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him." Many people today are discouraged. Many are anxious. Many are fearful. Yet the Bible continually points us toward hope. Jeremiah wrote to a people living in captivity: in Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future David wrote in Psalm 23:1 "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing." Isaiah declared in Isaiah 40:31 "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength."
The Christian faith is a faith of hope because our hope rests in God. America does not need more despair. America needs more hope. And biblical hope is found in the Lord.
Another reason America needs more faith is because faith inspires prayer. Every major movement of God in Scripture was accompanied by prayer. Moses prayed. Hannah prayed. David prayed. Daniel prayed. Elijah prayed. Jesus prayed. The early church prayed. Prayer is one of the clearest demonstrations of faith because prayer acknowledges our dependence upon God. Jesus taught His disciples in Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
A praying people are a hopeful people. A praying church is a powerful church. A praying nation is a nation that recognizes its need for God. America needs more prayer because America needs more faith. Most importantly, America needs more faith because America needs Jesus.
The central message of the Bible is not about a nation. It is about a Savior. From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture points to Jesus Christ. In Genesis He is the promised Seed. In Exodus He is the Passover Lamb. In Leviticus He is the Perfect Sacrifice. In Numbers He is the Lifted-Up One. In Deuteronomy He is the Prophet Greater Than Moses. In the Psalms He is the Good Shepherd. In Isaiah He is the Suffering Servant. In Daniel He is the Son of Man. In the Gospels He is the Messiah. In Acts He is the Risen Lord. In Revelation He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
The greatest need of America is not political renewal. The greatest need of America is spiritual salvation through Jesus Christ. John 14:6 says: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Acts 4:12 declares: "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."
The answer to the deepest needs of the human heart has always been Jesus. He forgives sin. He restores lives. He heals broken hearts. He gives peace. He gives hope. He gives eternal life. As we come to the conclusion of this message, we return to the promise of God where God's prescription for healing has not changed. 2 Chronicles 7:14. Humble yourselves, Pray, Seek His face, Turn from sin, Trust Him, Follow Him.
America needs more faith in God because America needs more of His Word, more prayer, more righteousness, more repentance, more obedience, and more trust in Jesus Christ. Revival will not begin in Washington. Revival will begin when God's people open their Bibles again. Revival will begin when families pray again. Revival will begin when churches preach the Gospel without compromise. Revival will begin when believers live out their faith every day. And revival will begin when people once again place their complete trust in Jesus Christ.
If God is speaking to your heart today, respond to Him. If you need salvation, come to Jesus. If you need forgiveness, come to Jesus. If you need renewal, come to Jesus. If you need hope, come to Jesus. The invitation remains open: Matthew 11:28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your love, mercy, and grace. We pray for our nation, our communities, our churches, and our families. Draw us closer to You. Increase our faith. Help us trust You more fully and follow You more faithfully. Heal what is broken, strengthen what is weak, and guide us by Your Spirit. May we become people of prayer, people of hope, and people of love. May our lives point others to Jesus Christ. In His name I pray. Amen.
